Before Photo — Capture the Moment Before You Press the Shutter

Everyone knows the feeling: the perfect smile happened half a second before you tapped the shutter. Before Photo is a camera application that quietly records the moments before your tap, so you can save the expression, glance, or action you almost missed.

How It Works

Once the App is open, the camera records full-resolution JPEG frames into a small rolling buffer on your device. When you press the shutter, Before Photo saves the frame from one to seven seconds before your tap — whichever delay you pick in the App. Frames that you don’t select are deleted automatically each second, so the buffer never grows uncontrolled and nothing is ever uploaded.

Key Features

• Time-rewind shutter. Choose a delay of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 seconds — every shot is the photo that existed that many seconds before your tap.
• Seven photo filters. Original, Vintage, Retro, Polaroid, Sepia, Noir, and Black & White — change the filter on any photo in the gallery at any time, or revert to the untouched original.
• Full-sensor resolution. Pictures are taken with the camera’s real capture pipeline, not a low-resolution preview stream.
• Tap-to-focus and tap-to-capture. Long-press to focus, tap to snap — fully configurable.
• Volume-button shutter. Default Android behaviour of turning the volume rocker into a physical shutter.
• Self-timer. 3, 5, or 10 seconds — still snapshots the moment before the timer fires, not after.
• Multi-select gallery. Select several photos at once to share or delete in bulk.
• Local-only storage. No servers, no cloud, no accounts.
• 76 languages. The interface is translated into 76 languages, with a searchable language picker.

Free and Premium

The App is free and supported by ads from Google AdMob in the free version. Premium removes all advertising and supports ongoing development. Premium is available as:

• Lifetime purchase — pay once, unlock forever.

All Premium options are processed through Google Play Billing. Pricing, promotions, and free-trial availability are set by Google Play and may vary by region.

Privacy by Design

Before Photo does not collect personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, and no backend servers that receive your photos. Everything you capture stays on your device and can be deleted from the App at any time. See the full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for details.

Availability

Before Photo is currently available for Android phones and tablets. A version for iOS is planned; this page will be updated when it becomes available.
