Privacy Policy — Before Photo

Last updated: April 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Before Photo mobile application (the “App”) handles your information. The App is designed with privacy as a core principle: it does not collect personal data and does not transmit your photographs anywhere. Everything you do with the App stays on your device.

For general information about the App, see the Before Photo product page.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

  • We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, account information, or any personally identifying information.
  • We do not upload, store, or access your photographs on our servers. We do not have servers that receive your content.
  • We do not use in-house analytics, tracking, crash reporting, or any telemetry maintained by us.
  • We do not build profiles about you and we do not sell data.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data only on your device, inside the App’s sandboxed storage:

Data Purpose Where it is stored
Saved photographs (JPEG files) Your gallery of captured moments and their unfiltered originals used for revert / filter-change. App documents directory on device.
Rolling frame buffer (temporary JPEGs) Holds the last few seconds of preview frames so the App can save the photo that existed before your tap. Old frames are deleted automatically each second. App temporary directory on device.
Photo metadata (SQLite) Capture timestamp, chosen delay, and applied filter for each photo. Local SQLite database inside the App sandbox.
Preferences Language, default delay, default filter, volume-button capture, tap-to-capture, self-timer, and premium status. Device-local shared preferences.

3. Device Permissions

Permission Why it is required Does the App send it to any server?
Camera To preview the scene and capture photographs. No. Frames and photos stay on your device.
Internet and Network state Required for advertising in the free version and for validating in-app purchases. Not used by camera features. Only to Google AdMob and Google Play Billing, as described in Section 4.
Google Play Billing Required to process subscriptions and the lifetime purchase. Yes, to Google. We receive only an entitlement flag.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)

The free version of the App displays advertisements served by Google AdMob, Google’s mobile advertising service. AdMob may collect and process information such as your device’s advertising identifier, device type, language, approximate location (derived from IP), and ad-interaction events. This data is handled by Google and is subject to its own privacy policy: Google Privacy Policy. You can control ad personalisation and reset your advertising identifier in your device settings. Premium users do not see ads, and AdMob therefore does not collect ad-event data from Premium sessions.

4.2 Google Play Billing (Purchases)

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Google Play. The App never receives your payment-card details. Google Play returns to the App only whether a valid entitlement is active. Google’s handling of billing data is governed by its own privacy policy: Google Privacy Policy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, trade, or rent any information about you to third parties. The only data flow to third parties occurs implicitly through Google AdMob (advertising) and Google Play Billing (purchases), as described above, and only because those services are necessary for the App to function.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Because no personal data leaves your device, there is nothing for us to retain. Everything produced by the App — photos, buffer frames, preferences, metadata — is under your direct control:

  • Individual photographs can be deleted from the in-app gallery (single or multi-select). Both the rendered file and the stored original are removed.
  • Uninstalling the App removes the App sandbox and all data associated with it, including the SQLite database, buffer, and preferences.
  • AdMob data is managed by Google; see its privacy policy for retention details and controls.

7. Advertising Identifier

On Android, the App uses the Google Advertising ID through AdMob for the free version. You can reset or opt out of personalised advertising at any time under Settings → Google → Ads on your device.

8. Free Version and Premium

8.1 Free Version

All photo-capture features work in the free version. Advertising via AdMob is shown periodically (interstitials after some captures, banners in the gallery).

8.2 Premium Plans

Premium is offered as Weekly, Yearly (optional free trial), or Lifetime. All three remove advertising. Prices and optional free-trial availability are displayed in the App at purchase time and are set by the app store operator.

8.3 Billing and Cancellation

Subscriptions auto-renew through Google Play unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Google Play account (and, when an iOS version is released, in your Apple ID settings).

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through some misuse of the App, please contact us using the address below so we can investigate. Because the App does not collect personal data, this scenario would only arise in extraordinary circumstances.

10. Security

All App data is stored inside the operating system’s per-app sandbox, which is isolated from other applications on your device. You are responsible for keeping your device secure with a passcode, biometric lock, or similar means.

11. International Users

The App can be downloaded in any region where the relevant app store offers it. Because we do not collect personal data, no international data transfers originate from our side. Third-party services (AdMob, Google Play Billing) may transfer data internationally in accordance with their own privacy policies.

12. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. Because we do not hold any personal data, the most effective way to exercise these rights over data created by the App is to delete individual items in the App or uninstall the App. For rights concerning data held by Google AdMob or Google Play, please refer directly to Google’s privacy controls.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when features change, when an iOS version is released, or when third-party services update their terms. The most recent version is always available on our website.

14. Contact
